Google has released an extension for its Chrome web browser.
The Personal Blocklist extension is aimed primarily at 'content farms'. These poor quality sites are flooded with key words aimed at attracting search engines and benefiting from the resulting advertsing revenue.
Once the extension is installed, a 'block' link appears under each Google search result which allows users to block domains.
This data is then fed back to Google who "will study the resulting feedback and explore using it as a potential ranking signal for our search results," according to the company's principal engineer, Matt Cutts, writing on the official Google blog.
