Google’s Andy Rubin told in an interview to BusinessWeek that Google will not release the source code for Android 3.0 anytime soon. Google rushed out Android 3.0 to meet the launch date of the Motorola Xoom.
“We didn’t want to think about what it would take for the same software to run on phones,” Rubin explained. “It would have required a lot of additional resources and extended our schedule beyond what we thought was reasonable. So we took a shortcut.”
We will not see Android 3.0 released for smart phones. Android 3.1 Ice Cream [Sandwich] is the first Android version to be optimized for both tablets and smart phones.
