Amkette's Pearl Bluetooth Mouse has made the idea of a Bluetooth mouse affordable for the masses. The wireless device retails for Rs. 995, which is a mere Rs. 100 dearer than Amkette's non-Bluetooth alternative. This is a negligible price to pay to free up a USB slot, which would otherwise be hogged by a wireless dongle. The Pearl wireless mouse employs the 2.4 GHz interface and supports a maximum of 1600 DPI, which can be stepped down to 1200 and 800 DPI. It has a semicircular body, with an ambidextrous design sporting four buttons. The sharp-edged body doesn't look very comfortable, but we can't be too sure of that until we get our hands on one. Keep your eyes peeled for a review.
In addition to compatibility with the usual Bluetooth enabled devices such as PCs, Notebooks, and Netbooks, Amkette claims that the Pearl works with tablets such as the iPad and iPad 2, as well as the iPhone 3GS. iPads generally cannot accommodate Bluetooth mice without a jailbreak, so it is interesting to see Amkette announce compatibility for the same. We have contacted the manufacturer for a confirmation, so watch this space for an update. The Pearl is backed by a warranty of three years.
