Sony PlayStation 3 sales surpass 50 million units worldwide

Sony has something to be proud of today. PlayStation 3 sales have surpassed 50 million units. The Move controller hasn’t done too shabby either.
That number was official as of March 29th and covers the globe. To clarify, the 50 million-unit figure refers to “sell-in numbers,” which really refers to sales to retailers, not actually consumers. However, it can’t be that far off and this is still a big success for Sony. It doesn’t look like Sony will have to worry too much about this product, and its unlikely we’ll see a PS4 anytime soon as Sony is focusing other gaming products such as Next Generation Portable and Xperia Play.
Also successful is the Move motion controller, which debuted last fall and got bundled up with the PS3 before the holidays. Sony has shipped over eight million Move units worldwide as of April 3rd. However, Microsoft might have this one beat when it comes to motion-based gaming as 10 million units of the Kinect for Xbox 360 had been sold worldwide by March.
